Specifications

Intended for use with our wood newel posts.  May not be suitable for newels of other makes/brands.

This system allows the installer to bolt the newel from the top-down, resulting in a very strong installation and a sturdy newel, with no fasteners showing.  No need for trim pieces to cover up ugly brackets or fasteners.

It consists of a base plate that is mounted to the floor, a threaded rod that runs up through the newel, and a channel with lock washer and nut at the top. Our newels have a shelf milled into the top for the channel to sit inside, making the fastener completely invisible.

For strength and corrosion resistance, the floor plate and top channel are chromed steel, and the threaded rod is galvanized steel.

Materials

For strength and corrosion resistance, the floor plate and top channel are chromed steel, and the threaded rod is galvanized steel.

We feel the chromed and galvanized steel, unlike painted steel, gives extra protection against the elements.  That means you don’t need to worry about rust staining your millwork in the years to come.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use this fastening kit on wood floors?  Concrete floors?  Masonry floors?
Yes, yes, and yes.  The floor plate has four 1/4″ holes that will accept wood lag bolts or concrete/masonry anchors.

I plan on cutting my newels down to a different length.  Will this fastening system still work?
Yes.  You can cut the threaded rod to a custom length on site with a metal cutting saw.  You’ll need a 1/2″ x 13 TPI die to clean up the threads.  Also, you’ll want to paint the cut end of the rod to prevent rust bleeding.
